in the North, the unions want to welcome classes in half-groups

Worried about the resurgence of cases in the establishments of the Lille academy, several unions are protesting so that the students are systematically welcomed in half-groups.

In the establishments of the Lille academy, the health situation is increasingly worrying. While cases are increasing among students and teachers alike, teacher unions SNUipp-FSU and the SNES-FSU cry out for warning. Continuing to keep some establishments open to full staff is not without consequences, it puts everyone at risk.

Asked by Aufeminin, Alain Talleu, departmental co-secretary of SNUipp-FSU (North), deplores that this sometimes leads to breaches of health rules. “When you have 28 students in an elementary class and you have to supervise 30 seconds of hand washing five times a day, it’s unmanageable, just like the ventilation of the windows. Windows, when there are, we open them as best we can, but it’s very complicated. ” And indeed, when it comes to enforcing all health measures for so many students at the same time, things can quickly turn out to be unworkable, leading to both stress and frustration among teachers.

Come back in half-groups

During the resumption of May 2020, schools were able to welcome students in half-groups, throughout the national territory. Containment and several health protocols later, this option has sometimes been put aside according to the academies. A decision that the SNUipp-FSU (North) criticizes: “Whether in primary school or college, the students must be in half-groups. Wanting to welcome them all at all costs at the same time does not make it possible to set up barrier gestures, whereas in half-groups, it is much more feasible. Who says fewer students, says maintaining social distancing, increased verification of hand washing, respect for wearing a mask, etc. ”

Be considered a priority for vaccination

According to data communicated by the inspector of the academy, this Tuesday, March 23, to the various teachers’ unions in the North, there are currently 450 teachers absent and not replaced in the region. In question, many people considered as vulnerable who, unless they are vaccinated, cannot return within a school establishment. For Alain Talleu, teachers must be able to be vaccinated very quickly. “If we want schools to remain open, we teachers consider that we must be a priority in the vaccination campaign. Teleworking is not possible for our profession, so we are in the forefront. ” Last Thursday, the government announced that access to the vaccine for this part of the population would be possible in mid-April, or even at the end of April, a much too long time for these teachers, who fear a runaway contamination. Last Monday, in an establishment in Marly (North), several of them invoked their right of withdrawal in the face of the increasing numbers of Covid cases in their establishment, as reported by France 3 Hauts-de-France. Will they all have to come to this?
