An explosion occurred in the Turkish capital Ankara.
The Turkish Interior Minister speaks of a bomb attack near the Interior Ministry.
According to the Interior Minister, two police officers were slightly injured in an exchange of fire following the explosion.
A news blackout has been imposed on the topic, reports the state news agency Anadolu.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya speaks on the X platform, formerly Twitter, of a bomb attack near the ministry. Two “terrorists” were involved in the attack. One blew himself up, the other was “neutralized”. Two police officers were slightly injured in an exchange of fire following the explosion.
The attack took place at the entrance to the Ministry of the Interior in the center of the capital, said the minister. The center was largely cordoned off. Parliament is meeting as scheduled for the first time since the summer break.
Authorities do not name a specific group
The Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation and also described the attack as “terrorist.” Authorities did not name a specific militant group that could be behind it.
Ankara has been spared attacks in recent years. The last attack occurred in 2015, when more than 100 people were killed in bomb explosions at the main train station. The Islamic State (IS) is said to have been responsible for this.
