The Anibis portal has been offering the “Secure Payment” service for some time. Fraudsters have now taken advantage of this.
The shock was deep when the “Espresso” listener realized what had happened. 1,400 francs were simply gone. The reason: The listener, an experienced user of various small portals, had fallen victim to phishing. A nasty scam in which fraudsters cleverly steal credit card information. In this case it is about the classifieds portal Anibis.
“Secure payment” as bait
In order to better protect users, the Anibis platform has been working with its partner Tripartie for some time. Before a sale is completed, buyers and sellers record their respective data on Tripartie’s site. The transfer will be reserved and only made once receipt of the goods has been confirmed. The “Espresso” listener has now been tricked with this alleged tripartite page.
Instead of going to Tripartie’s site, the listener is lured with a link via SMS to a fake site, which, however, looks deceptively real. Unsuspecting, he gives his data into the hands of the fraudsters. “I gave my account details away, so to speak,” the listener told the consumer magazine “Espresso”.
Be careful, fake site!
The procedure is always the same: users with fraudulent intentions try to lure their victims to a false page via a link or – as in this case – with an SMS. In response to a request from “Espresso”, the classifieds portal Anibis wrote: “We point out several times that, for security reasons, users should pay particular attention to the fact that they are on a tripartite site.” You can check this by clicking on the email or internet address.
The listener explains that he immediately tried to stop the transfer. However, the chances of getting your money back afterwards are very small.
