Season 3 of “In the Shadow of the Magnolias” landed this Thursday morning from Netflix. A new burst of episodes which will be placed under the sign of change since one of the characters will change face.
Changing a cast member in an ongoing series is an event that happens regularly on television. An evolution of the script, a planning problem, a child who grows up too quickly or even for health reasons (as was the case for example for Jordan Elsass who decided to leave Superman & Lois to focus on his mental health) are all reasons that sometimes force the studios to have to change actors along the way.
The series In the shadow of the Magnolias, whose season 3 arrives this Thursday, July 20 on Netflix, is about to bear the brunt of this phenomenon. The character of Katie Townsend, the daughter of Maddie (Joanna Garcia Swisher) and Bill (Chris Klein), will indeed change faces in this new burst of episodes.
Ella Grace Helton, whom we saw in United We Fall, joined the cast of the series. The young actress will replace Bianca Berry Tarantino, who left the series at the dawn of season 3 due to schedule problems.
The latter will soon be on the poster for Lady in the Lake, a mini-series for Apple TV + in which she will give the reply to Natalie Portman and Lupita Nyong’o.

A season 3 full of new challenges
Launched in May 2020 on Netflix and adapted from the novels by Sherryl Woods, In the Shadow of the Magnolias follows Maddie, Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) and Helen (Heather Headley), three best friends living in a small town in South Carolina, as they juggle their careers, their romantic relationships and their family.
Season 2 of the drama series, which released in February 2022, ended on numerous cliffhangers. After circling each other for several episodes, Ronnie and Dana Sue rekindled the flame, but Kathy, a mysterious woman who could get the mother of the family into trouble.
For her part, Helen had to make a decision that could change her life, while Maddie discovers that her ex-husband Bill (Chris Klein) had had another secret baby, who was none other than Isaac (Chris Medlin) the new chef of the restaurant.
During this new round of episodes, our three heroines will have to tackle all these problems and will have to face the inevitable complications that will follow, all while continuing to sip their margaritas.
