In the Steinernes Meer – mountain comrade left exhausted colleague behind

By sheer coincidence, a mountaineer discovered a weakened man lying on the path on Sunday evening. The shocking thing: the man had not been traveling alone, he had actually set out for the Steinernes Meer (Pinzgau) with another man accompanied. However, the “mountain mate” left the weakened hiker alone, freezing cold.

“We were alerted on Sunday evening around 10 p.m.,” says Markus Reichholf, the Saalfelden local office and operations manager. “A mountain climber discovered a weakened hiker on the approach path to the Ingolstadt house at an altitude of around 1950 meters. The German was on the climb and couldn’t go any further.” Must manage on his own. The two Germans from Lower Bavaria drove together to Weißbach/Lofer on Sunday and set out from there in the direction of Ingolstädter Haus (2119 m). On the way, the second German simply left his 64-year-old companion behind and continued on his own. “He said that he had left his colleague behind and just said that he had to get by on his own,” says mountain rescue operations manager Markus Reichholf, amazed at this behavior. The Saalfelden mountain rescuers, who had to move out late at night, transported the weakened year-olds down into the valley by means of a mountain stretcher. A total of 16 mountain rescuers were on duty throughout the night.
