Before the entry into force of a law deemed incompatible with the protection of user privacy, several VPN providers have decided to stop operating their servers located in the country.

An invasion of privacy
The law approved on April 28 notably grants the Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-IN), a state office under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the right to access to customer data from VPN solutions, crypto exchange platforms or cloud storage services.
These suppliers will be forced to keep certain data of their customers for 6 months to 5 years depending on their nature: names, telephone numbers, IP addresses… so much information likely to be communicated to the CERT-IN teams.
This measure is logically criticized by VPN companies. In response, several of them decided to dismantle their physical servers present in India. ExpressVPN and Surfshark have already formalized this decision; Hide.me’s turn.
No virtual servers?
The company justifies its decision with arguments similar to those of its competitors. The statement states that the law “ endangers the security and privacy of our users. Therefore, we had to make the difficult decision to stop operating any VPN server in India. “.
Unlike the other two providers mentioned above, Hide.me does not mention any Indian virtual servers. The company announces that there will be, until further notice, “ more indian servers “. Of course, Indian hide.me users will still be able to use the VPN, with the constraint mentioned above.
