Like Oppo, OnePlus and more recently Vivo, Realme is preparing to face delicate news, according to information from NextPit. The Chinese brand has told our colleagues across the Rhine to cease its activities on the German market, following the lawsuit brought by Nokia.
Earlier this year, the Finnish brand opened the floodgates for a lawsuit that could halt the BBK group’s rise in the European market. By attacking brands for patent violations, the telecom equipment manufacturer prevents them from selling their products on German soil. A first step before, perhaps, an extension to the whole of Europe.
After Vivo in early June, it’s Realme’s turn to throw in the towel. In a communication addressed to the site NextPitthe firm indicates to wait “positive news regarding licensing negotiations with Nokia […] But in the meantime, we will redirect our budget towards other European markets”. If France is part of it for the moment, it is not likely to last very long. As of today, Oppo is already well on its way to leaving the territory and OnePlus should follow the same path. Vivo’s case is still pending, but as the trial is due to start on June 27, we will soon be set.
This is a blow for the youngest brand of the BBK group, which arrived in Europe in 2019 and whose growth has only strengthened over the past four years. The new Realme 11 and 11 Pro+ models presented last week may not find their way to our country. Never mind, Realme can count on other much more buoyant European markets, such as Italy, Poland, Spain and the Balkan region.
