In turn, the iPad and iPad Air would be entitled to a new keyboard

For once, the newsletter PowerOn from the unshakeable Mark Gurman informs us about Apple’s future projects. If the brand is preparing to announce its iPhone 16 (expected on September 9) and a first batch of Macs with M4 processors should materialize this fall, it is a much more modest product that the journalist from Bloomberg : the Magic Keyboard of the “classic” iPad and iPad Air.

We have learned that this accessory would be renewed for Apple’s entry-level and mid-range tablets, but without adopting the “premium” aluminum design of the new Magic Keyboard, launched last May for the iPad Pro M4. In this case, Apple would be content with a more modest revision of this keyboard, and would therefore rely on a silicone coating close to the one we already knew. New keys would, however, be in the news.

Towards a row of shortcuts?

According to information from Mark Gurman, this new Magic Keyboard for iPad and iPad Air would indeed adopt a row of shortcut keys, which would be an interesting new feature for the iPad Air. And for good reason, its current Magic Keyboard does not have these keys.

This new keyboard would be available in several sizes to take the place of the Magic Keyboard Folio of the classic iPad (introduced in 2022 with the iPad 10), but also that of the old-generation Magic Keyboard (launched in 2020, with the old iPad Pro, but also compatible with the iPad Air).

However, its launch could not take place until 2025, according to Mark Gurman, with the aim of simplifying the current range of detachable keyboards offered by Apple. A good thing that we are already starting to see the outlines of: the firm recently removed from its catalog the old Smart Keyboards keyboards which still used (hang on tight) butterfly keys… yet abandoned long ago on the various MacBooks.
