In two episodes, The Last of Us franchise exceeds 37 million sales

In this post from Naughty Dog’s Creative Director and Co-President Neil Druckmann, we first learn that the franchise The Last of Us exceeded 37 million games sold worldwide in December 2022. An impressive figure, to say the least, given that the franchise in question only has two episodes. The first had reached 20 million sales on PS3 and PS4 in May 2019, while the second celebrated its 10 million sales during the spring of 2022.

A new teaser for the multiplayer game

We can only try to guess the current sales of the two games, but the total is in any case more than 37 million (say for example 25 million and 12 million). The Last of Us Part I has not finished selling since in addition to being recently released on PS5, the game will debut on March 3, 2023 on PC. And of course, Naughty Dog will be able to count in a few days on the adaptation of HBO, of which we are still waiting to know the broadcaster in France.

But the next big step for the franchise comes in the form of an all-new multiplayer game whose title is still unknown. Like last year, Naughty Dog is continuing to play the clock with this project and throwing us some new artwork to nibble on while we wait to unveil the game in earnest later this year. This multiplayer game announced as particularly ambitious, especially from a narrative point of view, is as a reminder directed by Vinit Agarwal, Joe Pettinati and Anthony Newman. This while Neil Druckmann and Kurt Margenau are in charge of a title which should be either The Last of Us Part 3 or a new license.
