in two weeks, the number of closed establishments and classes exploded

According to figures given by the government, the number of schools and classrooms closed has increased sharply in two weeks.

The covid-19 pandemic is evolving rapidly, and the arrival of the British, South African or Brazilian variant is not helping. While the government has not announced a re-containment yet, the numbers on the current situation do not bode well. You just have to look at those given by the Ministry of National Education on their site to understand it. In fact, in two weeks, the number of closed schools and classes exploded.

The situation report of January 15 announced "22 school structures closed" out of 61,500 and "138 classes" out of 528,400. As of January 29, these figures have multiplied: there are now 96 closed schools and 444 classes, with a total 11,864 infected pupils (out of 12,400,000) and 1,864 teachers (out of 1,162,850). In percentage terms, the figures are shivering: between January 15 and 29, the number of school closures increased by 336.36% and the number of class closures 221.74%.

These figures raise a question already on the lips of all parents for a few days: in the event of re-containment, will schools, colleges and high schools remain open? Last week the government more or less answered the question. Guest on the set of France 2's "4 Vérités" show on January 28, Jean-Michel Blanquer explained that he wanted to avoid the closure of schools. "Nothing is ever excluded but my option is to open up as much as possible", did he declare. Closure would therefore only be considered if the situation deteriorated sharply. “The disadvantages for children of not going to school are enormous. So we shouldn't sell off school. Children need to go to school, they need sociability, they need to learn, to feed themselves in every sense of the word ”, he added. According to the Minister of National Education, the strategy of leaving schools open during the last lockdown has worked.
