In Uganda, birth of the Museveni dynasty



Eutside the infamous dictator Idi Amin Dada, Uganda doesn’t mean much to many people. This is a mistake, because this country, which lives under the rule of Yoweri Museveni, is about to join the list of countries where dictator fathers are seriously considering passing on their power to their sons.

Several questions come to mind: how did Museveni manage to stay in power since his military victory as a leftist guerrilla in 1986, to the point of today playing the role of a 78-year-old African “wise man”? How was he able to successively convert to neoliberalism, be at the same time the enemy of a witch, a groupie of Reagan then of Bush, a clandestine player in the war in Rwanda, an invader of the Congo, an anti- -islamist…
