Lhe silence envelops Sievierodonetsk and Lyssytchansk. By seizing these two cities, the Russian army can take pride in now controlling the entire Luhansk region. An undeniable “victory” for Vladimir Putin, even if it seems very meager in view of the initial objectives.
In these newly occupied towns, direct communications have been cut off. What happens to the thousands of civilians who persisted in staying at home until the arrival of the Russians? Executions, summary arrests, disappearances, torture, rape? Boutcha’s precedent raises fears of the worst. But there could also be clandestine resistance movements, like those that have discreetly developed further south, in the Kherson region…
