After a slight delay, Chrome OS 101 has finally been deployed. And on this occasion, the operating system Google has put on its thirty-one to bring with it a lot of new features, including a brand new launcher.

Initially expected to be deployed on April 28, Chrome OS 101 has since been desired. Indeed, the OS of the Mountain View firm will have taken nearly two additional weeks before finally pointing the tip of its nose.

A launcher with a facelift

Announced in March, the brand new Chrome OS launcher is finally available. In a logic of making it more ergonomic, it no longer takes up all the space of the screen. Smaller, it now appears as a floating pane in the lower left part of your screen. In this way, you will now have more space to always keep an eye on your various windows that are already open.

Among the other new features of this launcher, there is also the possibility of sorting and organizing your applications by name, by icon color or manually, if you prefer to arrange them at your convenience. What’s more, the five most frequently used applications have a dedicated insert at the top of the launcher. We can also see a subtle change in the name of the OS on startup, as the space in the name “Chrome OS” has gone to give rise to “ChromeOS”.

Finally, we find a dark start screen, a new firmware updates menu which now has its own launch window, or the possibility of recovering the OS via the network, directly from a Chromebook .

Google Chrome

  • Very good performance
  • Simple and pleasant to use
  • A secure browser

Google Chrome no longer has to prove its qualities as a stable, fluid, fast, secure, ergonomic and multifunctional browser. Its interface and its mode of use are suitable for all audiences, inexperienced as informed. Criteria that still allow it today to dominate the market on a global scale, and to pursue development that inspires new web standards. But Chrome is not immune to a much less formidable aspect: the collection and commercialization of personal data by the browser which makes it a serious threat to the privacy of Internet users, all the more so when used in conjunction with other Google services. If respect for confidentiality must, for you, take precedence over the rest, we advise you to turn to Brave or Firefox, more reliable alternatives and satisfactory performance.
