18-year-old Muriel Furrer is in a very critical condition after a serious fall at the home World Championships.
As the UCI, the World Cup OK and Swiss Cycling inform in a joint press release, Muriel Furrer suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in a fall on the “City Circuit” in Zurich. The fall occurred in a forest, the cause is not yet known.
The Swiss U19 rider was flown to a hospital by rescue helicopter. The 18-year-old from Zurich is currently “in a very critical condition”.
The OC and the UCI will decide what happens next with the World Cycling Championships.
Emerging talent
Furrer is considered an up-and-coming talent in Swiss cycling. In June she came second in the road race and time trial at the Swiss junior championships. She also shows off her strengths in mountain biking and cycling.
In May she was part of the team that won bronze in the team competition at the European Mountain Bike Championships in Romania. She lives in Egg, not far from Uster, where the junior women’s road race started on Thursday. She attends the United School of Sports in Zurich and completes commercial training there.
