In Vienna kindergarten – small children locked in the toilet and mistreated

Two carers from a private children’s group are currently being investigated in Vienna on suspicion of mistreatment. Two children from two different groups are said to have been locked in a toilet during day care, sprayed with water, their heads dunked under a sink, and beaten and yelled at. The victims’ parents reported to Magistrate Department 11 (MA 11) – a temporary suspension of the two women was ordered.

MA 11 confirmed to the APA on Friday that the two educators were being investigated. The parents noticed a change in their children’s behavior after the events and found out about the allegations through conversations with them. The report to MA 11 was made last Friday evening. “No danger to other children.” MA 11 ordered the two women to be temporarily suspended. “We approached the carrier on Monday at 7 a.m.,” said a spokeswoman. “The facility is open Monday to Friday. There was never any danger to other children,” it said. The suspected educators have no longer worked for the private institution since then. “Until the allegations have been clarified, they are no longer allowed to work with children.” MA 11 emphasizes that parents should contact the Vienna Child and Youth Welfare service center at any time if they have any abnormalities or suspicions. Contact can be made via telephone number 01-4000-8011. Punishment for bad behavior The spokeswoman explained that the beating in the form of a “slap on the bottom” was part of the allegations. The abuse is said to have been intended as punishment for bad behavior. “If this is what happened, then it is clearly unacceptable behavior and has nothing to do with pedagogy,” said the spokeswoman. The responsible authority for child protection in elementary education is currently working on a presentation of the facts to the public prosecutor’s office. The police have also been investigating since then, it was said.
