Inauguration – Riedler ceremoniously elevated to the post of university rector

Peter Riedler was elected rector of the University of Graz back in June, and yesterday he was ceremoniously inaugurated in his new office in the auditorium. He will now head the largest university in Styria for four years.

In December, Peter Riedler became interim Rector of the University of Graz: His predecessor Martin Polaschek was appointed Minister of Education at the end of last year; he himself had previously worked as Vice Rector for Finance, Human Resources and Location Development. In June he was then officially elected from among three people as the new university boss for the four-year period. He prevailed against the Max Planck researcher Ulrich Pöschl and the Passau economist Carola Jungwirth.Predecessor Polaschek presented the rector’s chainThe 52-year-old has been in this position since October 1, and this Monday he was formally inducted into it: at the inauguration in the auditorium of the University of Graz. “I know you’ll do great,” said Polaschek, who handed over the rector’s chain to Riedler during the ceremony. The two know each other well from working together for more than ten years at the university. There are also two new vice-rectors at Riedler’s side. Together they make decisions for 4,700 employees and 30,000 students.
