Incident in the Prater – passengers recovered from a defective Hochschaubahn

This ride on the Hochschaubahn in Vienna’s Prater probably caused the adrenaline level of four passengers to rise more than originally thought: the ride suddenly had to stop due to a disruption, the passengers were stuck at a dizzy height. The professional fire brigade went to the rescue.

The amusement ride is a high-speed railway, where the users complete the dizzying ride side by side in a prone position. The disruption suddenly occurred on Wednesday at around 11 p.m., and the journey was interrupted immediately for safety reasons. The passengers in a gondola then got stuck at a height of around twelve meters.

The staff at the facility immediately climbed up to the passengers, reported Chief Fire Officer Christian Feiler. They initiated additional safety measures and notified the fire brigade, who immediately arrived with 35 emergency services and eight vehicles.

“The firefighters drove the turntable ladder to the braked gondola, installed a grab hoist and pulled it to the next safety platform,” said the fire brigade spokesman. “There the safety bars could be opened without any problems and the four passengers, accompanied by the fire brigade, could safely dismount.” The operation lasted around half an hour.
