Increase in Canal prices: the offers concerned and those which escape it

The Canal group sends a letter to subscribers of its various offers to warn them of the upcoming increase in some of its prices. In question, the decision of the French tax authorities to double the value added tax (VAT) applicable to some of the group’s offers of the encrypted channel.

If you have subscribed to an offer from the Canal group, you have received or will perhaps receive a letter. Sent Friday by the TV group, he explains to subscribers that because of the increase in VAT, the price of certain subscriptions will also have to increase. It must be said that the value added tax applicable to some of Canal+’s offers will double, from 10 to 20%. An increase which follows a decision by the French tax authorities.

Subscribers committed for one or two years not concerned

Conversely, the group demanded that the rate of its VAT be halved, to reach 5.5% and thus better compete with American streaming platforms. Faced with this forthcoming 20% ​​VAT, Canal+ chooses to absorb part of these new costs. But some subscriptions (and only some) will also be impacted, according to the newspaper. The echoes.

The prices of Canal+ offers will increase on new subscriptions. For customers who already have a subscription, only those benefiting from a non-binding offer will be impacted. On the other hand, subscribers committed for one or two years (i.e. the majority of Canal subscribers) will not see their tariff increase.
