While a standoff is engaged between the Île-de-France region and the government over the financing of public transport in the Ile-de-France region, the executive seems ready to make a move to limit the increase. “There will be state support so that users are better protected“, said Clément Beaune on RTL this Tuesday morning, on the eve of the board of directors of Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) which must vote on the 2023 budget and therefore set the prices for next year.

Yes there are discussions (with the region), and yes the State will help for 2023“said the Minister Delegate for Transport, confirming the words of his colleague Gabriel Attal on Monday morning. The Minister Delegate in charge of Public Accounts had said on BFMTV/RMC that the State was ready to “workwith IDFM, the regional transport authority, to help it balance its 2023 budget and thus avoid a sudden rise in subscription prices. “It is a file followed at a very high level, by the Prime Minister, the ministers concerned. We will continue to work with her (Valérie Pécresse, president of IDFM, editor’s note) to find solutions, to help her“, assured Gabriel Attal.

Asked about the extent of the increase to come, and while Valérie Pécresse mentioned the hypothesis of a Navigo pass at 90 euros (against 75.20 euros per month today), Clément Beaune kicked into touch. “I hope there is no significant increase, because I think it would not be sustainable in the period of inflation that we live in and where we have all experienced galleys in public transport“, he contented himself with declaring.

Monday morning, another member of the government, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire, had nevertheless affirmed that it was up to Valérie Pécresse “to find budgetary solutions“, seeming to exclude state support. His colleague Gabriel Attal, while being more open to discussions, had declared that the State refused to be the “cash drawerfrom IDFM.
