The solution is in the road surface. The scientists have developed a sophisticated system that enables electric cars and plug-in hybrids to be charged wirelessly. Innovative charging coils embedded in the asphalt below the traffic lights detect when a specially modified car is above them and charge its battery – in record time! The developers emphasize that enough electricity can be charged for a distance of one kilometer in just ten seconds. The charging system is also equipped with sensors that switch off the system when there is no car above it. This avoids unnecessary power consumption and maximizes energy efficiency.
