Founded in 2014 by the former marketing director of Zenimax Steve Escalante, Versus Evil quickly became known by publishing the fantastic The Banner Saga before continuing with more or less big titles. Certainly, along the way, there have been scabs, like Afro Samurai 2. However, their catalog is also studded with nuggets, like the bullet-hell FPS Mothergunship (praised by Noddus), the Among-Us-in-a- First Class Trouble cruise or the high school tactical Wintermoor Tactics Club.
The Versus Evil adventure unfortunately ended with the monster failure of Stray Souls, a lousy horror game whose poor performance seems to have put the last nail in the coffin. The Australian role-playing game Broken Roads, to be released in 2024, finds itself an orphan for the time being.
Acquired by tinyBuild in 2021, Versus Evil will not benefit from the renewed energy of its parent company. Atari has just invested $2 million in tinyBuild, allowing it to hold 7.5% of the company’s capital. A positive signal for shareholders: the stock market value of tinyBuild increased by 80% upon the announcement of this injection of funds. It’s Christmas, yes, but only for some.
