NEW DELHI (Reuters) – A cold snap hit New Delhi with minimum temperatures of up to 5.6C and fog disrupting air and rail traffic in the Indian capital on Tuesday morning.
Delhi Airport announced on Twitter that with visibility of only 50 meters in some areas, flights not equipped to operate in such conditions “could be affected”.
According to local media, 15 trains bound for New Delhi were also delayed due to fog.
The Indian Meteorological Service (IMD) said in a bulletin that the “dense and very dense fog” was likely to persist in parts of the city for the next 24 hours due to light winds and high levels of ‘humidity.
“Its intensity and scale are expected to decline thereafter,” IMD said.
The IMD is also predicting cold spells in parts of the northwest of the country, including Delhi, over the next couple of days.
