India: he receives at least 8 doses of vaccine to treat his pain


Vaccine addict. A 65-year-old Indian told the BBC that he had received 11 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in the state of Bihar. Brahmdeo Mandal, a retired postman, said the latter had helped him cure his pain and “stay healthy”. He claimed to have suffered no adverse effects.

As he wanted to be vaccinated for the twelfth time, local authorities forbade him to receive an additional dose. An investigation is underway to determine how Brahmdeo Mandal, living in the town of Madhepura, managed to get himself vaccinated several times without problem. “We have already found evidence that he received 8 injections in 4 different places,” said Amarendra Pratap Shahi, civil surgeon.

Initial investigations revealed that he had managed to take “two vaccines half an hour apart” on the same day and that each of these vaccines “was recorded in a file”. “We are puzzled as to how this could have happened. It appears that there is a platform failure. We are also trying to determine if there has been any negligence on the part of the people who manage the vaccination centers, “she warned.

Mr Mandal even kept detailed handwritten notes of the dates, times and camps he attended. He claimed to have received 11 doses, between February and December 2021. Questioned by the BBC, he explained that he had visited vaccination camps across Madhepura as well as in two neighboring districts, including one more than 100 km away.

His method? He used different identity cards to register on these sites. “After taking the vaccines, my body pain disappeared. Before, my knees hurt and I walked with a cane. Now I don’t have any. I feel good,” he says.

According to the BBC, 65% of India’s adult population is fully vaccinated and around 91% have already received at least one dose.
