India releases corona vaccinations for all adults

With the release, according to government plans, 500 to 600 million more people should have the opportunity to have a vaccination. So far, this was only possible for people over 45 years of age or with previous illnesses. Employees directly on the Corona “front”, such as medical staff, have also already been vaccinated.

However, the Indian vaccination campaign suffers from a shortage of vaccines, problems with distribution and reservations among the population. So far, 150 million of the 1.3 billion inhabitants have been vaccinated once, that is around 11.5 percent. Only 25 million people received two doses of vaccine. India is currently struggling with a massive spike in the number of infections and deaths. The new coronavirus mutant B.1.617 is probably partly responsible for the dramatic situation.
