India wants to reintroduce cheetahs

The last cheetahs in India were shot more than 70 years ago. Now a big experiment begins – not without risks.

(dpa) Cheetahs were declared extinct in India 70 years ago. Now the country is trying to resettle the elegant big cats – and had eight animals flown in from Africa. It’s the first time cheetahs have been translocated from one continent to another, says Yadvendradev Jhala, who is involved in the project on the Indian side. One hopes for a great success for the protection of species worldwide and also for India.
