Investing.com – In a practical new use of crypto technologies, the government of Maharashtra, one of India’s states, has started issuing caste certificates on the blockchain to citizens residing in the village of Etapalli, India. Gadchiroli district, as part of the Digital India campaign.

In partnership with LegitDoc, a blockchain-based application, the state government of Maharashtra is rolling out 65,000 caste certificates to facilitate the process of issuing government schemes and benefits.

The Indian government is said to be hard at work putting in place innovative technologies that can help democratize services to citizens. He would like to use the open and verifiable nature of Web3 data.

According to LegitDoc, the issuance of caste certificates through Web3’s neutral platforms aims to target 1.1 million economically challenged residents of Gadchiroli district, more than 70% of whom represent the tribal population.

Additionally, verifiable certificates are intended to deter tampering attempts by malicious actors who falsely claim government benefits for disadvantaged people.

As part of this initiative, the LegitDoc platform retrieves certain data from the government-run information system and uploads it to the Polygon proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain. The system then generates a QR code and certificates, which can be verified by various government departments.

Also, the government of Maharashtra has already established an accreditation system based on providing tamper-proof degree certificates to prevent tampering with documents.
