Indiana Jones and the Call of Fate is the first Indy film not to be directed by Steven Spielberg. Now the Oscar winner explains his involvement in “Indiana Jones 5”.

The Indiana Jones film series cannot be named without mastermind and star director Steven Spielberg. The Oscar winner has directed all four films so far, but another director takes his place in the director’s chair for “Indiana Jones and the Call of Destiny”: James Mangold (“Le Mans 66”, “Logan”).
Spielberg will remain on Indiana Jones 5 as producer, but how much decision-making power does Spielberg have on the film as producer? In an interview with the US magazine Deadline, he answered the question definitively.
I strongly advocated James Mangold directing the fifth film. I let him make most decisions.

That Spielberg doesn’t want to have a say may come as a surprise to some, but it also harbors great potential for a breath of fresh air. When the director and producer have different artistic ideas, the film can suffer. However, if one of the parties takes a step back, this ensures a clear artistic line.
Spielberg has worked on many films including Transformers, Jurassic World: A New Age and The Mask Of Zoro. Sometimes his handwriting was more noticeable, sometimes less. As a director, Spielberg will soon be back in cinemas in Germany with “The Fabelmans”.
On June 30, 2023 “Indiana Jones and the Call of Destiny” starts in US cinemas. In this country, the new Indy adventure will certainly be available two days before.
