Indiana Jones: freeze frame at 1 hour and 6 minutes, and observe the hieroglyphics on the left

If you don’t know this reference to two well-known characters from the Star Wars saga, remember to press pause at the right time when you (re)discover “Raiders of the Lost Ark”.

Even if they are much less numerous than in some more recent blockbusters, some easter eggs are nevertheless hidden in the Indiana Jones saga, initiated in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark.

In addition to various cameos by Dan Aykroyd, George Lucas or even Steven Spielberg himself, there are several references to the famous Star Wars saga. And most of them are worth seeing.

The most famous and the most mythical of these winks is in the first part of the saga, in the middle of the film, in the scene where Indiana Jones and Sallah descend into the “Well of Souls”, in Egypt, to retrieve the Ark of the Covenant.

If you’ve never heard of a hidden detail in this sequence, buried like treasure in a lost temple, press the “pause” button on your remote control at exactly 1 hour, 6 minutes and 14 seconds.

At the precise moment when Indy is about to open the chest, on the pillar to his right (and therefore to the left of the screen), we can see a series of hieroglyphs: one of them, as well as you can see, represents the silhouettes of C-3PO and R2-D2, famous droids from the Star Wars saga.

Lucasfilm Ltd.

A rather logical wink when you know that George Lucas, father of the science fiction saga, is not only a great friend of Spielberg, but also officiates on Indiana Jones as a screenwriter and producer.

Besides this first easter egg, other references to Star Wars are hidden in the adventures of Indy. Indeed, the seaplane in which the archaeologist climbs, at the beginning of the first film, is registered OB-CPO (for Obi-Wan and C-3PO). And in the introduction to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in Shanghai, the characters walk past an establishment called… the Obi-Wan Club.

Have you spotted any other winks like this?
