Rangnick doesn’t want Eintracht Frankfurt after all
It just didn’t fit. Ralf Rangnick’s enormous ambitions do not match those of Bundesliga soccer club Eintracht Frankfurt. Mainly because there is hardly any money available for new additions due to the corona pandemic.
Ralf Rangnick was still hesitant with his cancellation, Eintracht Frankfurt had already come to him before: The 62-year-old is not changing as a coach and sports director to the Bundesliga soccer club, which has been plagued by numerous leavers. According to information from the German press agency, chairman of the supervisory board Philip Holzer Rangnick canceled.
Rangnick had already met with Holzer and the other supervisory board member Stephen Orenstein in downtown Frankfurt on Wednesday. Rangnick came without an advisor Marc Kosicke. The conversation had been declared as getting to know each other. It was then agreed that a decision would be made by the end of next week. Eintracht has to reposition itself on the sporting level after the established departures of trainer Adi Hütter, sports director Fredi Bobic and sports director Bruno Hübner.
Reservations about Rangnick in the club
Holzer and Orenstein wanted to use the time to reduce resistance in the club against Rangnick. Board member Axel Hellmann and President Peter Fischer are said to be unconvinced by the former Leipzig trainer. According to information from the German Press Agency, Rangnick has now been canceled on the grounds that information about the secret meeting has leaked out.
However, the club probably only anticipated a cancellation by Rangnick. At the meeting, according to dpa information, the sporting ambitions of Eintracht and the squad for the coming season were discussed. Already then it became clear that both sides will probably not find each other.
Loss of top players threatens
Because top striker André Silva can leave the club in the summer due to a release clause for a good 30 million euros. With his 23 goals this season so far, the Portuguese international has played a major role in ensuring that Eintracht is well on its way to qualifying for the Champions League. In addition to Silva, Filip Kostic could also leave the club, the winger should have the commitment.
However, the possible transfer fees should not be fully invested in the squad. Rather, Eintracht must use the income to compensate for the losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, the salary level of the management is to be reduced. New players shouldn’t cost more than five million euros.
With these measures, Frankfurt would probably neither be competitive in the Champions League, nor would they play again in the Bundesliga for a place in the European Cup. The tight budget would hardly have enabled Rangnick to structure the club better. This means that the former architect from RB Leipzig currently has the prospect of succeeding Joachim Löw as national coach.
