Indonesia: a concert of a K-pop group interrupted after a stampede

K-pop group NCT 127 have ended their first concert in Indonesia after seeing 30 people fainted in a stampede, police said. Indonesia is still in shock a month after the stampede in a stadium that killed more than 130 people, including more than 40 children, one of the deadliest disasters in football history.

After two hours of concert, the followers of the boy band massed on the stage, when the group began to distribute gifts. “Thirty people then fainted. To avoid further incidents, we have decided to stop the concert at 9:20 p.m. (2:20 p.m. GMT)said police spokesman Endra Zulpan. The fans in the back pushed towards the stage when the gifts were distributed, before the barriers gave way, Syifa Aulia, a 19-year-old spectator, told AFP. “We are disappointed with these fans. We were told not to push each other, including NCT 127 members, but they were selfish. They ignored the safety of others, just to make good pictures“, she added.

Police cleared NCT 127’s second concert on Saturday, but banned handing out gifts to fans and demanded stricter measures to separate fans from performers. “To fix, we will be adding more paramedics and security for the second show“assured the organizer of the concert Dyandra Global Edutainment on Instagram. Last weekend, police canceled the third day of the Berdendang Bergoyang music festival in Jakarta after nearly 30 people fainted. Over 150 people were killed in a crowd at a Halloween party in Seoul overnight from Saturday to Sunday, one of the deadliest mobs in a decade.
