Inexpensive e-car from China: the manufacturer makes a bold promise

The MG4 Electric is a strong competitor to VW’s plans for an affordable electric car. The electric speedster from China should easily undercut the ID.3 in price. In addition, the market launch is scheduled much earlier than with VW’s planned cheap Stromer. Those who are particularly fast can still welcome the MG4 in 2022.

MG is serious about its new electric car for the German market. The compact car called MG4 Electric should be available for the first customers later this year. However, if you want to be sure to be among the very first in Europe to own an e-car, you have to hurry: For the first 1,000 vehicles, the manufacturer gives a delivery guarantee for 2022. According to MG, pre-orders are now possible on their website.

This includes the formerly traditional British brand today, as well as the South Korean brand SsangYong, from which the SUV Tivoli in particular can be seen from time to time in Germany.

The MG4, on the other hand, is significantly smaller and plays in a league with the ID.3 in terms of dimensions. Not so with the expected price: In Great Britain it is already included £25,995 for the standard specification specified what is currently around corresponds to 30,740 euros. Even if you round up to 31,000 euros, that’s still a real announcement to the competition.

For the price, there should be a range of 350 km according to the WLTP standard more expensive version comes to 450 km. In the future there will also be an all-wheel drive variant. MG has not yet given any information on the loading time, but promises that the MSP platform will be flexible Upgraded fast charging technology up to 800 V could become. The MG4 locks at a top speed of 160 km/h.

MG4 Electric: An interesting grab bag at an unknown price

There is of course one problem: MG still keeps the final price of the new electric car in Germany to itself. The pre-orderer will only find out shortly before a possible purchase. The announcement from MG shows that customers can reserve one of the first electric cars without obligation. The delivery guarantee in 2022 only applies to the first 1,000 pre-orders that actually lead to a sales contract.
