Inexpensive peanuts score with ÖKO-TEST

Peanuts are a popular food as a snack or for vegan cuisine. Even if the small legumes, because botanically speaking, peanuts are not nuts at all, are bursting with calories, they also provide important minerals and B vitamins. They are also a good source of protein. Experts therefore recommend a handful of mixed and unsalted nuts a day for a balanced diet.

So that we can continue to enjoy peanuts, has ECO TEST Have 21 popular brands of roasted and salted peanuts tested for mold toxins, mineral oils, fatty pollutants and heavy metals. The best news first: None of the products are contaminated with mold.

In addition to two organic products, the organic peanut kernels roasted and salted by Edeka and the K-Bio peanuts roasted and salted by Kaufland, the test winners also included fourteen products from conventional cultivation.

  • Lidl: Alesto peanut kernels roasted & salted
  • Max Kiene: Max Jumbo Peanuts roasted & salted
  • Aldi Süd: Farmer peanuts roasted & salted
  • The Lorenz Bahlsen Snack World: Lorenz peanuts roasted and salted
  • Ultje: Ultje peanuts roasted & salted

Overall, only one organic product was rated “sufficient” and another product was rated “satisfactory” in the test.

A notice: The test appeared in the ÖKO-TEST issue 9/2021
