Infineon: Two billion for a new site in Malaysia

(CercleFinance.com) – Infineon announced on Thursday that it plans to invest more than two billion euros in a new production unit at its site in Kulim, Malaysia, in order to strengthen its position in the semi- power conductors.

The German chipmaker says it intends to increase its capabilities by using silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) technologies.

The objective, he said, is to meet the multitude of needs expressed by its customers in sectors ranging from photovoltaic energy to transport, including the charging of electric vehicles.

The construction of the new unit should start in June with the first components which should leave the production lines at the end of 2024.

Once operational, the ‘Kulim 3’ site should allow the creation of some 900 jobs.

Infineon also announced on Thursday the promotion to the post of Deputy Chief Executive Officer (COO) of Rutger Wijburg, the boss of its Dresden site, replacing Jochen Hanebeck who has been called upon to take over as Chief Executive Officer of the group.
