Inflation almost halved – increase in electricity price less than expected

The energy market is rumbling. Energie Burgenland speaks of a “meteorite impact”. The financial shocks can be cushioned, among other things, thanks to reserves amounting to millions. Accordingly, the electricity costs for an average household increase by 6.70 euros per month.

Originally there was an increase in the electricity price of 12 euros per month. According to Stephan Sharma, the foreseen increase has almost halved: “We are not passing on the enormously growing procurement costs on the international market to our customers. On the one hand, we have released reserves amounting to millions. On the other hand, the discontinuation of the green electricity subsidy from 2022 will ease the burden. ”Debate about gas tariff The energy alliance, in which Energie Burgenland has a ten percent stake, is still debating the future gas tariff. At the moment there is only one thing that can be said: “There will be no adjustment until the end of the year. We are looking for alternative solutions, ”says Sharma. Alternatives as a goal Over the year, energy imports make up 50 percent. Most of the demand is covered by gas and oil. The aim, emphasizes Sharma, is to become more independent from the market. The trend-setting path has long been taken with the increased use of wind and solar power. The offer is supplemented, among other things, by solar subscriptions at fixed prices for 84 months, as will be the case with the planned photovoltaic parks in Güssing and Schattendorf next year.
