Retail in the USA also started the second quarter with stagnating business. Revenues in April remained at the same level as the previous month, according to the US Department of Commerce.

Inflation target at two percent

The US Federal Reserve (Fed) is combating inflation with high interest rates and is aiming for an inflation rate of two percent. After some aggressive increases, the central bank paused several times and kept the key interest rate constant in a range of 5.25 to 5.50 percent. The first interest rate cut on the financial markets is not expected until September at the earliest.
