Inflation: Roussel files a bill to lower “gasoline taxes by 35 cents”

With the approach of the summer holidays, the question of purchasing power is still as present for the French. This is the reason why Fabien Roussel, deputy of the North and national secretary of the PCF, decided to table this Wednesday “a text of law aimed at immediately reducing by 35 cents the taxes on gasoline”, while its price ” flirts with 2.30/2.50 euros”, he recalled, during his interview in the morning of Europe 1. A situation “unbearable for many fellow citizens”, lamented the former candidate for the presidential election, “including for workers who need their car to get to work”.

Tax oil companies

At the same time, he proposes “to tax exceptionally, in 2021 and 2022, the profits of oil companies, including Total”: “That, we can implement immediately”, he said.

In this regard, Fabien Roussel wonders. “Instead of asking us if we are ready to participate in a government, I ask them: ‘Are you ready to support such a bill?'”, referring to Emmanuel Macron and Élisabeth Borne.

“We are able to vote on amendments”

Asked about the potential support of the Nupes, and of the left in general on the texts of the majority, Fabien Roussel said: “We are very respectful of the parliamentary debate.” Especially on the “purchasing power” law, which should be proposed to the Council of Ministers on July 6, “we will judge on documents, we will see what is in the text”. And to add: “We are able to vote on amendments, to vote on articles.”

André Chassaigne, the president of the communist group in the National Assembly, meets the Prime Minister this Wednesday, and the bill will be on the agenda: “We will clearly say what we want in this text of law”, then “the debate will take place” within the Bourbon palace.
