Inflation: the government wants to revalue APLs by 3.5%

“It’s a way of responding to the difficulties” of the most vulnerable French people, noted the Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire.

The executive is gradually unveiling the measures to protect purchasing power which will be presented to the Council of Ministers in early July. This Monday, the boss of Bercy confirmed that housing aid will be increased to help the most fragile households: they “will be revalued by 3.5%“, precisely.

This boost will betemporary, because the spike in inflation is temporary“, and targeted at the most fragile households, said Bruno Le Maire. “It’s a way to respond to the difficulties of all these people“, he welcomed. One of the first measures of the new government will therefore be to revalue this aid, unlike the beginning of the first term of office of the President of the Republic: in 2017, Emmanuel Macron had wanted to trim a few euros per month on APL, allowing to save some 400 million euros over one year. Five years later, inflation has changed the situation: it is not a “change of philosophy“, but a “great attention to the difficulties of the French“, defended the Minister of Economy and Finance …

The increase in APL should be proposed in the amending budget expected in July, alongside a myriad of other elements for purchasing power. When questioned, Bruno Le Maire’s entourage estimates the additional cost at 168 million euros for the year 2022. At the same time, the executive wishes in particular to revalue certain social benefits, cap the increase in rents at 3.5%, triple theMacron premium» and extend the tariff shield on energy. Inflation, for its part, should continue to increase, reaching, according to INSEE, 5.5% on average this year. Something to take households by the throat.
