Inflation: these star products on the Christmas menu will be more expensive this year: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

We alerted you to inflation affecting chocolate in mid-November. Due to the increase in the price of cocoa and sugar on international markets, a 10.5% increase in chocolate bars on shelves is to be deplored at the end of 2023. An embarrassing situation a few weeks before the holidays end of year, where papillotes and chocolate logs are legion. Unfortunately, these aren’t the only Christmas products that will be more expensive this year. THE foie grasTHE Champagne and the smoked salmon are currently also experiencing an increase in their prices. According to BFMTV, this increase will not be as significant as in 2022, but these three star products on holiday tables will still be affected by inflation. So, is it possible to consider a vegetarian and/or alcohol-free menu for the end-of-year celebrations? It’s up to you ! Otherwise, find the editorial selection of the best quality/price ratio for smoked salmon, foie gras and champagne.

The reasons for the inflation of these products explained

Concerning foie gras, the inter-professional association announces an increase in “About 5%”report our colleagues from BFMTV. In question : rising production costs, but also the vaccination of ducks, hard hit by avian flu last year. For this Christmas dish, the offer will be reduced on the shelves, so if this is a must-have on your holiday menu, make sure to plan ahead. Champagne, for its part, will experience an increase “a little above general inflation”announces David Chatillon, the co-president of the Champagne committee. Production costs have also increased in this area, but no supply tension is not to be expected according to our colleagues. Finally, smoked salmon could cost 50 cents to 1.50 euros more than last year for a package of ten slices, according to the inter-professional association. And if smoked salmon will not be missing from the shelves, packages of 4 or 6 slices will become rarer. “Manufacturers are moving more towards large wafers of 10, 12 or 16 slices to achieve economies of scale”specifies Pierre Commère, the general delegate of the fish industry at theAdepale (Association of processed food products companies).
