Unknown people set fire to books and a Thanksgiving crown in Schattendorf (Burgenland). Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames. Now looking for clues.
This brings back memories of the recent series of arson attacks in Siegendorf: A case of arson has now also been reported in Schattendorf. The fire had been set in the basement of the old vicarage. Since a roof truss fire was initially suspected due to the clouds of smoke, more than one fire brigade was alerted. On site, however, it turned out that it was a localized fire. Unknown people had set fire to old books and the Thanksgiving crown stored there. The fire brigade quickly managed to bring the flames under control. Rowdies raged in the building Upon closer inspection, it also turned out that considerable damage to property had been caused to and in the building. Both windows, electrical wiring and a lawnmower tractor had been damaged. The amount of the damage was not known for the time being. The police assume that in the past few weeks several young people were staying in the old rectory and were up to mischief there. The building is showing its age, is uninhabited and was used, among other things, as a warehouse. Traces were secured at the scene of the fire. The police are asking for information from the public.
