Inge Viett died: Ex-RAF terrorist was considered incorrigible

cov. Inge Viett, a former member of the Red Army Faction RAF, has died at the age of 78, according to German media. Viett was considered one of the central figures of left-wing terrorism in the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition to the RAF, she was also a member of the “June 2nd Movement”.

The “Junge Welt” first reported on her death. Accordingly, Viett is said to have died on May 9th, as the newspaper writes, citing its political environment. In 2007, the “Junge Welt” published a text written by Viett in which she defended the terrorism of the RAF.

Viett was arrested in 1990 – she was released seven years later

Born in Schleswig-Holstein in 1944, Viett moved to West Berlin in 1969. She joined the extra-parliamentary opposition APO and later the armed struggle of the “2 June Movement”. She was arrested several times and broke out of prison.

In the 1980s she was part of the RAF and went into hiding in the GDR. After her arrest in 1990, she was sentenced to 13 years for attempted murder, but was released in 1997. She then worked as an author and repeatedly appeared at political events. She was considered “unteachable” to the last.
