Belgorod reports renewed rocket attack

According to the authorities, the Russian border region of Belgorod is again under fire. The small town of Schebekino is under “non-ending fire,” the governor laments. At least five people were injured. Ukraine has not yet committed to this.

According to the authorities, at least five people were injured by intensive shelling on Thursday night in the western Russian region of Belgorod on the border with Ukraine. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that the small town of Shebekino was under “unending fire” from Ukrainian forces.

Both the center and the outskirts have been fired at since midnight with Soviet-made “Grad” multiple rocket launchers. So far, there has been no confirmation from the Ukrainian side. In many cases, the information from the war zone can hardly be verified by an independent party.

Evacuation not planned

According to the Russian governor, a man was found unconscious with numerous shrapnel wounds. Most of the other people suffered minor injuries. A residential building was burned out, the roof of an administration building was damaged. Gladkow rejected reports of a planned evacuation of the small town on the border.

Russia launched a war of aggression against Ukraine more than 15 months ago and is shelling the neighboring country’s territory every day. Deaths, injuries and damage to property are part of everyday life in Ukraine. But the Russian border regions are now also complaining about increasing shelling from the Ukrainian side. In May there was heavy fighting in the Belgorod region with armed invaders. Volunteer battalions, made up of Russians but fighting on the side of Ukraine, claimed responsibility for the action.
