Injustice! – “Equal Pay Day”: Why women earn less

October 20th this year is the day on which men have earned what women have to work for by the end of the year – the “Equal Pay Day”. To calculate this number, the Chamber of Labor compares the salaries of men and women who were employed full-time all year round. Women have an average gross monthly income of 3,022 euros (before tax deduction), men to 3,770. “What you shouldn’t forget: Half of the women work part-time and don’t really earn this amount,” adds Bernadette Pöcheim, equality expert at the Styrian Chamber of Labor.
