Inka Bause: Special song for her late ex-husband

Singer and presenter Inka Bause has revealed how an emotional song helped her grieve for her late ex-husband.

Inka Bause (51) can currently be seen on Mondays (8:15 p.m., RTL or via TVNow) as a matchmaker on "Bauer sucht Frau". But the popular presenter is also pursuing her music career: on her new album "Lebenslieder" she dedicated a special song to her late ex-husband Hendrik Bruch, as she told us in an interview with "Bild am Sonntag".

The title "As long as I live" meant a lot to the presenter from the start of their relationship. "We both studied music in Berlin and fell in love at university. At that time I sent him this lyrics by Gisela Steineckert as a love letter (…)", says Bause. Her father then wrote the music for the emotional text. "After Hendrik's death (Bruch committed suicide in 2016, editor's note), the song helped me a lot to deal with this terrible event – like a kind of therapy. When I last sang it during my performances, half the hall cried with you . "

The family gets together on his birthday

Bruch still calls her "man" to this day, because "Ex" always sounds like a bad divorce, says Bause. "That sounds too harsh, because we were close friends until shortly before his death, although he already had a new partner. And he's still the man of my life to this day." No man will ever be able to take his place – "if only because he is my daughter's father," explains the presenter. The whole family get together on Bruch's birthday. "We cook together and think of him. It's a very nice ritual – but he is no reason why I could no longer find my dream prince."

From 1988 onwards, Bause and Bruch had jointly presented a children's program on GDR television. The two were married from 1996 to 2005. Bruch worked, among other things, as a composer, singer and voice actor – for example as the German singing voice of Quasimodo in the Disney cartoon "The Hunchback of Notre Dame".
