Inno Day 2022 – Oppo unveils Air Glass 2 for discreet augmented reality

Oppo’s Inno Day is traditionally reserved for its technical innovations. The 2021 edition notably welcomed Air Glass, augmented reality glasses, or rather a connected monocle to be placed on a spectacle frame. The 2022 edition of the conference puts a new iteration of this connected accessory in the spotlight: the Air Glass 2.

Technical details remain limited. These are still augmented reality glasses – assisted in the jargon of Oppo – whose weight is set at 38 g, or 8 g more than their ancestors. This is easily explained, because if we are to believe the visuals shared by the Chinese manufacturer, this year it is no longer a module to be added to glasses, but an all-in-one frame that can to merge with traditional eyeglasses, with however a somewhat cumbersome arm. To ensure the projection of information in front of the user’s eye, Oppo evokes a diffractive lens with surface relief, the first of its kind developed by Oppo. These lenses, assures the manufacturer, can be adapted to the view of the user.

In terms of functionality, the Air Glass 2 will allow phone calls, real-time translation, GPS navigation or voice transcription into text. Uses already seen on the Air Glass and which should therefore be refined on the new version, and above all work discreetly. We also note that if Oppo’s “monocle” only authorized the display of information on a single glass, the Air Glass 2 seem to authorize the display on both glasses, according to Oppo’s visuals .

The first generation Air Glass was not marketed in France, but in China at a price of around €700 excluding tax. Oppo does not say more about its Air Glass 2, but it is likely that the glasses will again be reserved for their domestic market, at a price that remains to be confirmed.
