Because there’s nothing more unsightly than a graphics card’s power cable.
In computer science, we sometimes find good ideas, sometimes others that are less inspired. And then, there are some that make you wonder why they weren’t imagined earlier.
A barely visible cable
This also applies to the position of the power cable of the graphics cards from the AXGaming brand, owned by the Chinese company Inno3D. So far and if we talk about 6, 8 or 12 pin connector, it is always placed in roughly the same place.
In fact, it is generally impossible to completely hide this not always graceful cable and it is sometimes necessary to make it make a few detours to connect the power supply to the graphics card. Some manufacturers have already had the idea of placing the connectors at the end of the PCB, a solution which is not really suitable for boards with a short PCB.
This is where Inno3D’s idea for its new AXGaming range comes in. The power connector is no longer placed on the edge of the card, but offset on top, at the level of the backplate.

Remove a portion of the backplate
The idea of the company is of course to pass the cable as discreetly as possible following the graphics card along its length until it reaches the power port, a hole having been made to slide the connector.
To do this, Inno3D has designed a new type of backplate that can easily be removed to access the connector. The technique therefore requires a little more “handling”: you have to remove the backplate, connect the cable and, finally, put the backplate back on. We should survive.
Another interesting point, the power connector is directly soldered to the PCB and there is no question of using an adapter or extension cord, which should limit the risks. On the other hand, there is currently no question of offering very powerful cards with this system.
Indeed, on the first batch of AXGaming models, Inno3D is content with GeForce RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti, cards limited to a single 8-pin power port: no doubt a question of simplicity for the Chinese manufacturer who has no no release date given yet.
