Tampons have proven to be “trap” for the bleeding during our days loooong. Even during the Pharaonic period in ancient Egypt women should have used a kind of tampon during their menstruation. Also, the Greek physician Hippocrates mentioned in the 5th century BC tampon-like hygiene products in his writings. But the idea of ​​catching the blood before it comes out is as ingenious as it is simple.

What is still not so easy for many women (not only the first time ?): Introduce a tampon! That’s why we’ll explain step by step how to do it best.

Insert tampon in 6 steps

  1. Washing your hands: Before you start, wash your hands thoroughly. This minimizes the risk of germs or pathogens from reaching your hands or vagina when inserting the tampon.
  2. Unpacking the tampon : Next, remove the plastic bag that the tampon is (probably) packed in, and hey presto – you’ve also taken the second step!
  3. Draw back the ribbon: Now untangle the ribbon, which seems to stick to the flat side of the tampon, unwind, pull it out and pull it a bit faster. Does it stop? Then continue in the text! 
  4. Take insertion pose : To insert the tampon, you should take a comfortable position. You can z. B. sit on the toilet, squat down, stand and put a leg on the toilet or the edge of a bathtub. Above all, it is important that you reach your sheath comfortably and relaxed with your hands.
  5. Introduce the tampon : And now we are in the main part, so relax: You’ve done it as well as done! The smoothest way to introduce the tampon is to spread your labia slightly apart with one hand and push the tampon into the vaginal entrance with the other. Put your index finger on the flat side and hold the tampon with your thumb and middle finger. So you can push with the index finger and with the other two fingers first make course corrections until the tampon is where you want him. If it hooks or you feel resistance, but the tampon still half out, try it with a small change of direction. Tilt the pad slightly up or down until you can continue to insert it.
  6. Wash your hands : When the tampon has disappeared and sits properly, so that only the return strap dangles, wash your hands, as you do after a toilet. Et voilá – done!

  • Tampons should always be changed after four to a maximum of eight hours .
  • Tampons are best for days with heavy bleeding . At a very weak period, the vaginal entrance may be too dry and the tampon will not insert properly or hurt when inserted. Then prefer to go back to a bandage or menstrual cup .
  • The tampon is right when you use it z. B. when walking not feel .
  • In the beginning you should take the smallest tampon size (mini), so that the easiest way to insert. If you find that it is not enough for your bleeding, you can still try it with a larger size.

  • Are you afraid to introduce the tampon too deeply? Do not you need! Introduce him as deeply as possible. As long as the ribbon still hangs out, you get him out again and again.
  • Tampons do not belong in the toilet ! If you want to remove a used tampon and dispose of it, you wrap it in toilet paper and throw it in the trash.
