New features for racing gameplay are rare, and all the more appreciated when they appear. This Thursday’s Inside Star Citizen show does indeed present two new official tracks, one on the ground and the other in the atmosphere.
Some of the developers are enthusiastic about the racing gameplay, and CIG’s work model allows and even obviously pushes them to explore the possibilities as much as possible in their “free time”. Thus, two developers have made their contribution to the building for 3.17.2 by including new possibilities for racing as of this patch. This news complements the encouraging information shared in this week’s Roadmap Roundup.

This route was discovered and democratized by the community, and the developers just took this idea to give it a boost. The environment around the route has been improved to facilitate spotting and landing zones have been placed to allow any spectators to watch the ships slalom between the Clio infrastructures. This process is a developer initiative, but its implementation is intended to directly support community events, and facilitate their setup and running.
Buggy Track Racing
One of the developers who worked on the Siege of Orison environment wanted to take advantage of the halls created for the occasion, which would have remained empty most of the time. He then created various road assets that can be easily combined and separated to create “Mario Kart” style karting tracks (not mentioned in the video, but evident in the developer’s speech ndlr). The layout is studied for the Greycat Buggy. Banking turns and even a jump are already integrated into the circuit, on the other hand, the Greycat cannot take enough speed to allow it to take a loop. These are ready to be implemented, but postponed.
This is a real novelty decided just three weeks before the release of the patch on the initiative of a single developer. These kind of little surprises add more fun to the gaming experience, and we can only be impatient with the idea of other innovations of this type.
