The first clues about this multiplayer title had emerged in September 2022, in an interview given to our colleagues at Full Sail University by Erin Eberhardt. The project director of Insomniac Games then mentioned the fact that the Californian studio was planning to design a third multiplayer-oriented game. Make no mistake, this is not a DLC, a add-on or a feature integrated into Spider Man 2 or at Wolverine, but indeed from a separate franchise. Erin Eberhardt said: “This is actually my first triple-A game project, I’m the project director here on an unannounced project“.
Multi, yes, but Marvel or not Marvel?
We owe the fact that this information has surfaced to Twitter user (or rather “X” user) Dream WaIker. The latter took the opportunity to praise the corporate culture and the journey of Insomniac Games in these terms: “Under the Sony umbrella, Insomniac Games has become a real powerhouse. Their size has grown exponentially, now a multi-project studio, with multiple teams, increasing the quality and quantity of games, while maintaining a crunch-free corporate culture“.
If Insomniac Games has been widely known for its solo games So far, spearheaded by Marvel’s Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, we must not forget the fact that the firm has already proven itself on multiplayer titles, such as with the very fun Sunset Overdrive (Xbox One/PC exclusivity published by Microsoft Studios), and with the Resistance shooter saga. For the time being, no official indication or information concerning this new AAA multiplayer project has been disclosed, except for a few job offers published on the official Insomniac website.
