In the field of action cams, if GoPro and DJI are particularly successful, Insta360 is not left out. The Chinese brand, specializing in 360 degree cameras, is diversifying more and more. After launching its very first webcam, the Insta360 Link, last year, the manufacturer unveiled a new classic action cam, the Insta360 Go 3, on Tuesday.

As its name suggests, the Go 3 succeeds the Insta360 Go 2 launched in March 2021. It is, like the previous model, a small action camera which has the advantage of compactness and modularity. Concretely, like what DJI was able to offer with its Action 2, we are thus entitled to a camera module distinct from the screen module. It is then possible to attach the camera very simply and lightly, or to have a larger module, with screen and battery, in which the camera is clipped.

In terms of features, the camera alone weighs only 35 grams, can film alone for 45 minutes and is IPX8 certified, therefore resistant to shallow immersion. It also benefits from an 11.24 mm equivalent ultra-wide-angle lens opening at f / 2.2 and can capture photos up to 2560 x 2560 pixels.

For videos, Insta360 announces support up to 2.7K (2720 x 1536 pixels) at 30p. However, slow or fast modes are offered in 1080p. Insta360 even goes so far as to attempt to woo professionals with standard, vivid, and flat color profiles for easy color grading. Note however that only h.264 is supported in terms of video encoding.

A very modular action cam

The Insta360 Go 3 also incorporates internal storage of 32, 64 or 128 GB. The choice of storage will be all the more important as the camera does not benefit from storage extension by microSD.

Where the camera stands out from competing models, as we have seen, is its modularity. In addition to the optional Action Pod module – which incorporates a rotating screen and increases the autonomy from 45 to 170 minutes – it is possible to attach it to many supports, including magnetic to attach around the neck.

The Insta360 Go 3 is already available. The basic model, with the camera alone and 32 GB of storage, is displayed at 429.99 euros. However, it will take 469 euros for the action kit with the Action Pod module and up to 582 euros for the bike kit with the camera in 128 GB version, the Action Pod module and other accessories.
