Since the metaverse utopia, the atmosphere would have changed a lot at Meta, including after the dismissal of 21,000 employees in a few months. The company, like other gamam », turns resolutely towards artificial intelligence, and mainly towards generative models, à la ChatGPT, Midjourney, etc. This Thursday, June 7, a meeting with the employees of the company would have been held, and if the term ” artificial intelligence was present, that of metaverse “, much less.

The integration of a kind of ChatGPT in Instagram

A few days ago, the leaker Alessandro Paluzzi posted a screenshot of what appears to be an Instagram menu on Twitter. The mobile developer indicates that Instagram would work on an AI bot with which one could chat, to ask questions or receive advice. The chatbot would have no less than 30 different personalities that one could choose from.

#Instagram is working on bringing AI Agents (Bots ?) to your chats for a more fun and engaging experience ?

For the moment, Meta has not communicated around such a feature. For The Verge however, this would be consistent with a statement by company CEO Mark Zuckerberg that the company is developing ” AI personas that can help people in different ways and that these chatbots could be integrated into Meta’s instant messaging services, such as WhatsApp or Messenger. On the chatbot in Instagram, Meta declined to comment on the leak.

A service already offered by Snapchat through My AI, a chatbot with whom you can chat at any time. A feature that caused controversy a few weeks ago: the bot gave irresponsible advice to young teenagers.

AI-generated stickers in Messenger

The writing of The Verge claims to have attended a Meta company meeting. During this assembly, the vice-president Ahmad Al-Dahle, in charge of AI, would have ” told employees that the company was going to leverage its image generation model to allow users to create stickers from text prompts. This may already be technically possible, since Meta announced a month ago ImageBind, a model capable of supporting several types of requests: audio, image, text, etc.

If the employees have been made aware, it is so that they can work on it, but also test this functionality internally before launching public test phases. For Ahmad Al-Dahle, this would allow users to have ” an infinite number of options for personal expression, cultural representations and even trend relevance “.

Meta wants to go even further in the automatic generation of images

But this is not the only declaration of the vice president of Meta. The latter would have assured that the company “ also working on AI models that will transform any image in any way “. It has already unveiled some, like SAM, a model capable of identifying elements on an image, without even having been trained in a conventional manner beforehand.

Meta-style artificial intelligence could thus make it possible to modify the format of an image (crop, crop), but also to ” turn a photo of a corgi into a painting “. The whole thing would be done via a textual command, a description provided by the user. The images could then be shared in stories on Instagram for example. Meta would also have announced the organization of a hackathon dedicated to the subject of generative AI in July. The ambition of Mark Zuckerberg, according to him, would be to publish the research work of the company he chairs, and in particular to publish code in open source.
